A lot of homeowners put off new windows waiting for “a better time.” If you’re wondering whether summer is that time, the short answer is yes, and so is almost any other season. Here’s why summer works well in Louisville, what to expect during a hot-weather install, and how the other seasons compare.

Why summer is a good time for window replacement
- Predictable weather. Long, dry stretches keep projects on schedule, and sealants cure the way they’re supposed to.
- You feel the difference right away. Summer is when drafty, single-pane or failed double-pane windows cost you the most. Low-E glass starts reflecting heat the day it’s installed, and your AC gets a break.
- Beat the fall rush. September and October are when a lot of homeowners decide to get it done before winter, which stretches out scheduling. Booking in summer usually means more flexibility on your install date.
Will my house get hot during the install?
It’s the most common worry, and it’s smaller than people expect. Our crews work room by room and only open one window opening at a time, so the house is never wide open to the heat. Most homes are done in a day or two, and a little warmth for a few hours is a fair trade for years of a cooler house.
How to get ready for install day
- Clear a few feet in front of each window inside, and take down blinds and curtains
- Move patio furniture and grills away from the windows outside
- Plan for pets to stay in a closed room or out of the house
- Let us know about alarm sensors on your windows
What about the other seasons?
Fall
Comfortable temperatures and the chance to seal up the house before winter. It’s the most popular season, so book early.
Winter
Yes, you can replace windows in winter. With one opening at a time, the house doesn’t sit open to the cold. Winter is also when drafts are easiest to feel, which makes it a good time to see which windows are worst.
Spring
Mild weather and a head start before summer heat. Rain can shuffle the schedule a bit.
The honest answer: the best time is when your windows are failing. Rot, fogged glass and windows that won’t lock don’t get better by waiting a season.
Summer-specific benefits of new windows
- Cooler west- and south-facing rooms thanks to Low-E glass that reflects the sun’s heat
- Less UV fading on floors, rugs and furniture
- Screens that fit and windows that open, so you can actually use the nice evenings
- Less humidity sneaking in around worn frames
